Kia ora, Charlotte Eyers-York here and I'm currently in my third year of a Bachelor of Dance at AUT University. Over the course of these three years I have achieved an A average over a variety of subjects from Dance Practical and Theory studies to Nutrition, Human Structure and Function, Psychology, Cultural Dance, Drama and much more.
Since the age of 15 I've been assistant and sole teaching Jazz, Hip Hop and Ballet at various stages and continue to teach RAD Ballet as a qualified teacher of this syllabus. A qualification achieved through AUT and RAD London.
I've also choreographed, taught and performed at many shows, some of which include the Beijing International Car Show for Volkswagen in 2006, Beijing, China; the L'Oreal Master Hair Designers Supreme Awards; AUT Maori Expo 2005 & 2007; Air New Zealand Fashion Week; Titus Andronicus Shakespearean Play and many more.
Outside of university studies I'm completing my Advanced II Ballet and performance work with Devonport School of Dance, and have been dancing with Urban Beat Hip Hop Dance Company for three years and perform and train with them on a regular basis. I also regularly partake in contemporary IndepenDANCE classes at TAPAC, Western Springs, Auckland.
It's hard for any student to balance study and work, and with added dancing commitments it makes it virtually impossible to work and finance everyday necessities. On top of costs such as food, rent, travel and bills, there's dance and examination fees, shoes, clothing, hall hireage to name but a few. The Frances Irwin Hunt scholarship has helped me to 'live' each day and study and dance as well.
I love being busy, some, if not most people think I'm mad but I wouldn't have it any other way. Being so busy all the time means that being efficient with time is a virtue you most definitely must achieve! At first it seems impossible, but writing schedules and setting deadlines for yourself makes the impossible, possible.
