2025 Awhina Nursing Scholarship

Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students enrolled at UCOL Palmerston North campus and are in their second or subsequent year of study for a Bachelor of Nursing.

The Awhina Nursing Scholarship was made possible by the fundraising efforts of past Māori nursing students of Manawatu Polytechnic (now the Universal College of Learning [UCOL]). Funds were retained by Te Roopu Kotahitanga until a decision could be made where the funds could be best used to benefit Māori nursing students. In early 2000, Māori nursing students were granted the right to hold the annual National Māori Nursing Students Hui at Ratana Marae. Their fundraising efforts resulted in surplus funds which were then invested.

As a result, the Awhina Nursing Scholarship was established in 2019 and currently aims to support tauira who are currently enrolled in their second or subsequent year of a Bachelor of Nursing degree at the UCOL Palmerston North campus.
