2025 Frances Irwin Hunt Art Scholarship

Available to Māori undergraduate students studying in the fields of performing or cultural arts which may include, but not to be limited to: dance, music, art, theatre/film. Priority will be given to students with academic merit and financial need.

Miss Francis Irwin Hunt was a prominent New Zealand artist whose work is represented in the Auckland Art Gallery’s collection. Upon her death in 1981, aged 91, her family farm was then sold and the proceeds were given to the trust to create a scholarship under the name of her father, Nicholas Irwin Hunt. Later in 1983, it was decided to establish two scholarships from the proceeds of the same of the farm; the Francis Irwin Hunt Scholarship is available to Māori writers.

The aim of the Francis Irwin Hunt Art Scholarship is to support Māori undergraduate students who are studying in creative fields, where priority is given to students with academic merit and financial need.
