2025 Rose Hellaby Scholarship

Available to Year 9 students with demonstrated financial need, academic ability and aptitude, who require assistance to purchase school uniforms or textbooks.


Rose Hellaby, visionary and benefactor, was one of five children in the old Auckland Hellaby family dynasty, and lived in what is now a historic home set in 9 hectares of land and, upon her death in 1974 at the age of 91, the home was gifted to the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. In 1969, Rose established the Rose Hellaby Medical Scholarship Fund, with it’s purpose being to provide scholarships to medical practitioners to undertake research in rheumatic disease, physical medicine, and manipulative treatment, or to bring specialists to New Zealand to impart their knowledge.

 

The objective of the Rose Hellaby Scholarship is to encourage and support tauira entering secondary education.

EligibilityApplicants must:

  1. be of New Zealand Māori descent;
  2. be enrolled at a NZQA recognised secondary school;
  3. be a year 9 student;
  4. submit the application and supporting documentation on time.

Supporting Information You need to provide:

  1. Whakapapa verification. This can be a letter from your iwi confirming your registration.
  2. 2025 Enrolment confirmation. This can be a letter from your school, or a 2025 class timetable.
  3. Bank verification of your bank account number. This can be a bank statement or a screenshot of your banking app.
  4. End of year report. This must be your Year 8 end of year report for term 4.
