Frequently Asked Questions

A written academic reference is a letter from a current or past tutor/lecturer/supervisor who writes about you as a student, your commitment to your studies, and how your studies can benefit Māori. This is required for ALL postgraduate applicants. These should always be updated for the year of the scholarship you are applying for, E.g. if you are applying for our 2024 round, your reference MUST be dated for 2024.

You may also require a character reference, which is a letter written by a friend, work colleague or someone who has known you for 12 months or more and talks about your character and reputation. These must be from within a 5 year time frame from when you apply, E.g. if you are applying for our 2024 round, character references can be dates from 2019 to present.

To apply for a scholarship, you can click here. You will be redirected to our scholarship portal where you can make an account/log in to apply.

We do not have individual forms for each of our scholarships. Instead, what we have is a main form for each study level – which is what you are seeing. This holds all our available scholarships that we have listed on our website, and all you need to do is tick whichever ones you would like to be considered for.

Please ensure that you have entered your bank details in the correct format (see below).

This can be a letter from your iwi or hāpu which confirms your membership and registration or a membership card. If you cannot provide these, alternatively, you can download a whakapapa template from the templates tab on the left hand side when you log in to our scholarship portal, and fill that out and upload it or send through to our team via email.

We cannot give an exact date, but it will be October 2024 at the latest.

An enrolment confirmation can be a letter from your tertiary institution confirming your enrolment – this will need to state your study begin and end dates.

NOTE: We will not accept any enrolment confirmation documents that are an “Offer of Place” – please ensure your document confirms your enrolment, and it is not an offer.

In order to view our partner scholarships that are with our partner portal, you MUST indicate that your iwi affiliations is one of the partnered iwi that you are intending to apply for. If you do not do this then they will not be made available for you to apply for and you will not be able to view it.

If you did not do as described above and the partner scholarship has not been made available for you, you MUST contact us immediately for assistance.
