ABOUT

Te Wānanga o Raukawa

Te Wānanga o Raukawa (TWoR) was established in 1981 as the first contemporary wānanga in Aotearoa

It is a natural and necessary extension of Whakatupuranga Rua Mano, the iwi development experiment created by The Raukawa Marae Trustees; a representative body of the A.R.T Confederation of Iwi and Hapū of Te Ātiawa, Ngāti Raukawa, and Ngāti Toa Rangatira. Over forty years later this Wānanga remains committed to the preservation and generation of Māori knowledge. A centre of innovation and higher learning, the purpose of TWoR is to maximise its contribution to the survival and wellbeing of Māori as a people. We constantly strive to evolve in ways that are responsive to our people and to forge pathways that enable them to be Māori in the way they think, act and behave.

Based in Ōtaki, TWoR offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate certificate, diploma and degree programmes in a range of subjects that contribute to the mātauranga Māori continuum. Since 2018 funding from the Te Wānanga o Raukawa Foundation (TWoRF) has enable the provision of TWoRF Scholarships to students studying at Te Wānanga o Raukawa. Each year more than 75 students receive a scholarship ranging in value from $1,500 to $3,000 depending on their study load.

Last year additional funding support from the Māori Education Trust has seen the distribution increase to more than 95 scholarships. We look forward to developing the relationship further to continue to increase the distribution of scholarships to our students.
