2022 Undergraduate Scholarships

The 2022 Undergraduate Scholarship round has now closed.The 2023 Undergraduate Scholarship round is due to open in Hakihea (December) 2022.If you have any queries regarding your 2022 Undergraduate  Scholarship application, please email info@maorieducation.org.nz

The undergraduate scholarship round closes 4.30 pm, Thursday, 31 Poutū-te-rangi (March) 2022. Note:   If you already hold an undergraduate degree and are intending to undertake study for an additional undergraduate degree, you must submit a postgraduate scholarship application.  If you have any queries, do not hesitate to contact us.

Awhina Nursing Scholarship

Number of recipients: up to two (2)

Applicants must be enrolled at the Palmerston North Campus of UCOL in 2022, and in their second or subsequent year of study for a Bachelor of Nursing.

Edward Holmes Tertiary Scholarship

Number of recipients: varies

Value of scholarship: varies

Available to tertiary students who are registered beneficiary of the Ngāti Kahungunu Ki Wairarapa Tāmaki Nui ā Rua Post Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE).

Frances Irwin Hunt Art Scholarship

Number of recipients: 30

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students studying in the fields of performing or cultural arts which may include, but not be limited to: dance, music, art, theatre/film.  Priority will be given to students with academic merit and financial need.

Manākitanga Scholarship

Number of recipients: 1

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to a full-time Māori student of Tainui, Ngāpuhi or Ngāti Tūwharetoa descent. Priority will be given to students with financial need.

Māori Education Trust Bachelor of Dental Surgery Scholarship

Number of recipients: 10

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to Māori undergraduate students who have completed their first year of a Bachelor of Dental Surgery.  Priority will be given to students with financial need.

Māori Education Trust Undergraduate Scholarship

Number of recipients: 25

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to Māori undergraduate students who are in their second or subsequent year of study in 2021. Priority will be given to students with financial need.

Nicholas Irwin Hunt Writing Scholarship

Number of recipients: 10

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to full-time Māori undergraduate writers, with preference to those studying in the field of journalism. Priority will be given to students with proven writing ability, academic merit and financial need.

Norman Kirk Memorial Scholarship

Number of recipients: 20

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students studying at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institute. Priority will be given to students with demonstrated financial need and academic merit.

Pūkaha Scholarship

Number of recipients: 1

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students enrolled in a bachelor of Engineering degree of STEM related degree and are of Ngāpuhi or Ngāti Tūwharetoa descent.

Pūmanawa Scholarship

Number of recipients: 1

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to a full-time Māori student of Tainui, Ngāpuhi or Ngāti Tūwharetoa descent. Priority will be given to students with academic merit.

Regina Rudland Memorial Scholarship

Number of recipients: 1

Value of scholarship: $500

Available to a full-time Māori student of Ngāti Porou descent, undertaking study in the field of Agriculture or Apiculture at Level 3 or higher. Priority will be given to those with demonstrated financial need.

Rose Hellaby Bursaries Scholarship

Number of recipients: 15

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to Māori undergraduate students studying to become qualified or employed in a profession or calling which includes scientific, mathematical or technical skills. Priority will be given to students with academic merit and leadership.

Roy Watling Mitchell Bursaries Scholarship

Number of recipients: 25

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to Māori undergraduate students who in their second or subsequent year of study in 2022.  Priority will be given to students with financial need.

Sir Apirana Ngata Memorial Scholarship

Number of recipients: 3

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to a full-time Māori undergraduate student studying at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institute, who attended Ngata Memorial College or Te Kura Kaupapa o Te Waiū o Ngāti Porou as a Year 13 student in 2021. Priority will be given to students with academic merit.

Sister Annie Henry Scholarship

Number of recipients: 2 (in total, open at secondary or tertiary level)

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Available to Māori students who are a direct descendant of Reverend John Laughton, or of Tūhoe descent.

Tarere Trust 2 Scholarship

Number of recipients: 12

Value of scholarship: $1,000

Open to shareholders or descendants of current landowners of Tarere Trust 2.

Tī Maru Māori Trust Scholarship

Number of recipients: 3

Value of scholarship: $5,000

Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students enrolled in their final year of study at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institute. Priority will be given to students with academic merit.

Tribal Education Scholarship

Number of recipients: 2

Value of scholarship: $5,000

Available to Māori students studying Information Technology. Priority will be given to first year tertiary students.

Whanake - HERA Scholarship

Number of recipients: 1

Value of Scholarship: $5,000

Available to a full-time Māori undergraduate student enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Structural or Mechanical). (Note: Applicants must also be available for a paid summer internship, which is based in Auckland.)
